The cool part of living in the woods...

We have mentioned in previous blog posts about the creatures living in our garage, but this time I wanted to point out the cool part about living in the woods.

Tonight I walked out to my shop about 10:15. It was pretty dark outside, since it has been raining all evening and there were still lots of low clouds. As I got to the shop, the motion detector light on the corner comes on. I opened the door to the shop and as I stepped in, I heard this very odd sound coming from the woods out past the shop. It was rather loud and didn't sound like anything I had heard before. I stepped back outside and walked down the driveway to the parking area beside our apartment. I had a flashlight with me, so I pointed it in the woods to see if I could tell what it was.

I could see some animal about 75 feet away, just inside the trees, jumping around. The noise kept coming every few seconds as the animal jumped around. I thought it that it might be a dog attacking something so I walked a little closer. I could see 2 sets of eyes, one set on the big animal and one set on the animal on the ground. Then I noticed this big white tail pointing upward. It was a deer! But what kind of animal was on the ground?

As I walked to the side, to get a better angle around some of the trees, I noticed a very little fawn trying to stand and walk. It was the fawn that was bleating every few seconds when the doe would jump around it. The doe was snorting and jumping around trying to get the fawn to run away from the danger of a person near by. I figured I was frightening them so I walked back to my shop.

Fawns are normally born at dusk and can walk within hours of being born, so this one probably was born earlier tonight. It was only about 12 inches tall and had very wobble legs.

We have seen other deer in the woods and yard, but this was the first fawn I had seen and being only a couple hours old at that. A fawn isn't something that you see when you live in a subdivision. Living in the woods is pretty cool.

Answers to survey...

  1. I got my passport! It is time to travel outside of the country so I can get it stampped. Where should I go?
  2. A little lizard. Luckily daddy was around to open the door and let the lizard out. He probably just came in to play with my toys. I got some really cool ones.
  3. I like them both. They are really fun to watch in the morning when you first wake up. We all hangout on the couch and do some stretching to get limbered up for the day.
  4. The frog on my car seat. If you push his eyes, he plays music and his cheeks light up. Someone has always had to punch it for me until now. I've gotten big enough that I can finally reach it and push it as many times as I want.
  5. Even though I got my passport, I'm not using it yet. This trip is to the beach!!! Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) mommy and I head to Myrtle Beach with a bunch of my friends.
  6. Yes I love water! It is fun to splash in.
  7. I guess I look like several different people, but I would have to say that who ever it is, it probably is a McBride. I look more like that side of the family right now.
  8. I love animals. So when I grow up, I am going to get a job working with them, like a veternarian or big cat trainer at the zoo.
  9. It is a picture of me, so of course it should be on the internet. Don't worry daddy, I do have a diaper on.

My first trip to the beach...what fun!

Daddy and I are hanging out at the airport. The people in the security station at GSP were very nice to me. They must've liked my lion travelling outfit. (It helps me feel brave.)
Mommy gave me a pep talk about eating when she told me to eat...something about my ears. She's pretty smart so I did what she told me to do, but my ears never hurt...I don't know what all the fuss about babies on airplanes is about...I thought playing peekaboo with my new friend behind us was great!
Mommy was also concerned about skin cancer or something...she made me stay in the shade a lot. I have to say, though, I make this tent look good.

I snuck my toes into the sand while they weren't looking...kind of grainy.

Daddy taught me a new word: capsize. He told me not to do it.

I liked the view from up high better anyways...

After a long day playing at the beach, a hammock is a great thing to have around...
We stayed at Bella's By the Sea. They had an excellent courtyard, were right across from the beach and had plenty of room for Mommy, Daddy, me, and my friends Tricia, Eddie, Gloria, and Elizabeth! http://www.bellabythesea.com/

This is my friend Elizabeth. Her Daddy is going to be mad when he sees pictures of his daughter in a bikini on the internet, but I thought she was cute!

This is my friend Gloria. She was mad we were leaving the beach so she didn't want her picture made. I can hardly wait until I can jump over waves as high as she can!

Pretty good life, huh?

Daddy had a good time digging this really big hole.

He even let me sit in it.

We're pretty cool in our shades and hats if I do say so myself.

Mommy and I had a good time relaxing, watching the waves.

Yeah, beach!

This is my sort-of cousin Chloe. She took great care of me! I was so worn out after my bottle I fell asleep standing up! and she let me stay there for a good long nap...

This is another of my sort-of cousins Gracie. She's really fun too!

Here I am in the fancy hole Mommy dug so that I could sit up and watch the ocean. Chloe saved me when a rogue wave jumped the little wall, the moat, and the big wall and then tried to carry me out to sea!

This was a fun toy Mommy made for me to play with at the beach! Who knew a Coke bottle and a few rocks could be so much fun?!

As you can see we had a great time! Thanks so much Tricia, Eddie, Auntie Barbara and Uncle Charlie for hosting us! I can hardly wait to go back!
Love to you all, The Willster
